Personal: Liana at the zoo

August 7, 2010 at 11:50 PM (fun location, kids, personal)

This weekend we took the girls to the zoo.  Liana, our 3 year old, is normally stuck in the stroller during weekday zoo trips with me.  Dadda joining us today offered Liana a little more independence.  We have tons of the obligatory bear-over-her-shoulder picture, so today I snapped some different shots as we celebrated her strollerlessness.  This first set were taken in some of the few shady spots I could find today in the zoo garden.

Just past the eagles exhibit (one of Liana’s favorites) is the Eagles Nest exploration area.

It was almost time to head home for nap, but we had to visit the jellyfish, get our hands wet in the touch tank, and of course climb the coral reef climbing wall before heading home.

I love the Akron Zoo, and if you’d like to put down your snapshooter and have someone else document your family’s trip to the zoo (and maybe get some family portrait shots taken in the garden), I’m your girl!

Family Session: Sandy, Steve, and kids

July 21, 2010 at 2:09 PM (couples, family, fun location, kids)

This was a fun picture to take of Sandy and Steve’s 5 great kids.  What you don’t see is the little boy (at Price Park) for a church picnic) who really wanted to be in this shot.  He really really really wanted to be in this shot.  The only way I was going to take a family picture that actually consisted of this family was to take one with him in it and figure out the rest later.

How do you add a touch of class to the “make a silly face” picture?  Convert it to black and white!

Here’s the respectable version:

Instead of my usual running commentary, I’m going to introduce these kiddos by name, and let their photos speak for themselves.  I will say that I enjoyed spending time with each one of them!

Here’s Katie

Thanks for coming out to support the completion of another family!  I hope to see you all again!

Family Session: Mark, Brandy, and their 5 wonderful kids

July 8, 2010 at 12:26 AM (baby, couples, family, fun location, kids, Uncategorized)

Mark and Brandy’s family session was the first of my “Day In the Park” series for Brooke Taylor’s family adoption fund.  My husband was my assistant for the evening, and my only regret is that I didn’t get a shot of his legs as he stood on a step stool next to me, holding up a light bouncer over this great family.  With kids ranging from 1 month to 7 years this is one  busy family.

Laid back and just plain fun,  we loved meeting Mark and Brandy!

One month old Luke is an angel just right for my new little bench.  (Which by the way, might look great in your own backyard with you 0-6 year old posing on it.)

The newly minted big brother, John Paul, is a hair raising experience himself (in that adorable, precocious way that two year olds have about them).

Older-middle brother Joey was a great model, and a very good sport considering how many times I called him Ryan!

Speaking of Ryan…he was a ham for the camera and a helper for his family.  I loved watching him hold John Paul’s hand and helping him get all the way up to the top of the big spiral playground slide.

Last but not least, the sweet and lovely Emma.  Check out her smile in the 2nd picture in this post.  She was just glowing, holding her newest brother.

Thanks for coming out and supporting the adoption fund!

Family Photography for a Good Cause – A Day in the Park – UPDATED

June 13, 2010 at 4:25 PM (baby, couples, family, fun location, kids, newborn)

Friends of ours have embarked on the worthwhile but expensive journey of international adoption.  In an effort to help a little with the enormous costs associated with this effort (imagine just taking a family of 5 to Poland for the required 6 weeks) I’m having a mini-session day at Price Park in North Canton.  For $45, I’ll give you all of the pictures I take in a 30 minute session.  You’ll receive a CD with a digitally re-touched copy of whatever we take, and the right to print them.  Every penny goes straight toward bringing a child without a family home to this amazing one!  Price Park is full of great backgrounds close together, and a fun playground for kiddos.  I’ll book sessions between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 10th.  E-mail me to schedule your session, and please help me help this family by spreading the word about A Day in the Park!

Here are a few pictures I’ve taken at Price Park.  The first three are actually feature the adopting family!

I’m looking forward to your session on this very special day.  Book it now to get the time slot you want, they’re filling fast!

Update:  95.5 The Fish is providing one randomly chosen family who books a session for this day with 4 movie tickets for Regal Cinema (off of Arlington Road, in Green).

Senior Portrait Session: Chase

June 12, 2010 at 1:42 AM (fun location, senior portrait)

Chase was a great sport during this shoot as we constantly changed locations as the rain started and stopped and then started back up again during our afternoon at Southgate Park.

I really enjoyed chatting with Chase about the sports that he played in high school, friends, and his upcoming pre-med major.  With a house full of busy younger siblings, I think he’ll easily transition to dorm life this fall!

I loved the shout-out here to his elementary/middle school alma mater.

Finally, here’s a fun and funky random shot.

Good luck Chase, and thanks for braving the weather with me!

Accident, Aftermath, and Easter: My kids

June 10, 2010 at 12:51 PM (family, fun location, kids, personal)

Less than a week after Mari’s first birthday we had one of those accidents you never think will happen to you in your house.  As a result, our newly minted one year old received first degree burns on the palms of both hands, although one hand was worse than the other.  We learned the hard way how blessed we are to be so close to the outpatient burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital!  After many many visits and weeks of wrapped hands, Mari is doing very very well now!

Unfortunately, her wounds were fresh when we attended an Easter Egg Hunt.  She was a great sport, though.

Her big sister enjoyed helping Mari find and recover eggs, but her favorite part was definitely the pony ride that followed.

Despite the trauma and drama of that week, both girls had a good time that day.

Couple Session – Nick and Julie

November 3, 2009 at 12:27 AM (couples, fun location)

I am getting way too predictable, but I wanted to get one more shoot in at Southgate Park before all of the leaves were off the trees.  With their first wedding anniversary coming up, this couple agreed.  Since Nick and Julie are moving from Green into their first house soon, I was excited to get some pictures they can put up that don’t involve a white dress or a tux.   Their wedding was gorgeous, but this place has some  pretty romantic backgrounds, too!

What a cute couple!  In case you’re wondering, these leaves were as fluffy and crunchy as they look.

I love pictures like this, where we’re talking and laughing and snap snap snap.  It’s a great way to get very natural smiles.

Thanks Nick and Julie, and congratulations on your new home!

Senior Session – Brittney (outdoor)

October 30, 2009 at 6:41 PM (fun location, senior portrait)

We  had a beautiful afternoon to shoot the outdoor portion of Brittney’s senior portrait session at Boettler Park.  This was the first time I’d met Brittney, and she impressed me right away.   As soon as her mom took a stroller out of the car she stepped right up to  push it for her youngest sibling.  I’ve worked with enough teenagers to know this is not typical, and that I was really going to enjoy working with her.  Brittney’s being  a natural in front of the camera was just icing on the cake for me.

This is probably my favorite shot of the day.  The background is cool, and she looks amazing!

I was glad we could catch some of the last remnants of fall color up at the playground.  Her little brother was glad we were at the playground period!

Her mom had the idea to put a little fall-themed collage together, and I’m so glad she did!

Brittney Senior Portraits2I’m looking forward to finishing your portfolio with your indoor shots, Brittney!

Couples – Dana and Nathan

October 21, 2009 at 6:02 PM (couples, fun location)

Nathan and Dana are planning a winter wedding, so we planned awhile ago to get some outdoor engagement shots in autumn.  It sounded like a good idea – sweaters and jeans, and lots of leaves.  Unfortunately it felt more like the middle of winter on the day of our shoot!  This is a pair of real troopers, though, and you can’t even tell how cold they were in the pictures.  (I say they because I kept my coat on!)

At their suggestion we met at Quail Hollow State Park in Hartville, OH.  It was a special location, because they have visited it often together.  I love that there were certain areas (like the bench above) where they sat and talked when they were first dating.

This is my favorite shot of our session.  Dana’s just glowing!

Congratulations Dana and Nathan!

Couples Session – Brooke and Andy

October 18, 2009 at 3:50 PM (couples, fun location)

Ah, to be young and in love!  It was their idea to go to Southgate Park in Green, and I’m so glad they brought it up.  Brooke was a bridesmaid at a wedding there this summer, so she knew just where to go.  It was a great spot and I’ll definitely head back there again.  Even with the great location, the couple themselves really stole the show.

She is going to make a beautiful bride.

I almost felt like I was intruding snapping this shot – but I’m still glad that I got it.

Gotta love the him-gazing-at-her shots.

Congratulations Brooke and Andy!
