Personal: My Mari

September 4, 2010 at 12:29 AM (kids, personal)

I recently posted some pictures of Liana at the zoo.  I haven’t done an official shoot with Mari lately, but I do have glimpses of her from the past couple weeks to share.  I can’t believe my baby is 17 months old already.

Our playgroup recently visited the zoo, and took our inaugural ride on their new Conservation Carousel – Mari’s loved it, and was even happy to share her steed with her big sister.

An evening shortly after that Mari was in more of a mood to explore the many use of a popcorn tin than she was to sleep, and my camera was within reach.  It was used to barrel roll, beat like a drum, and at this point, as a comfy perch to read her book.

After she managed to get herself out of the tin, she found an even “better” way to use it – the reason it disappeared by the next morning.  After all, what toddler wouldn’t love a stool just high enough to allow her access to the TV controls?

Here’s Mari after feeding herself so much pasta you’d swear she was carbo loading.  This girl may have a Scandinavian first and last name and bear an oddly close resemblance to her father, but here my baby’s inner Italian shines through.

Like any mom I could go on forever with this post, like a digital never-ending brag book.  Before I stifle myself, though, I can’t resist squeezing in just one more shot.

I was observing the big kids when our playgroup visited the Beech Creek Botanical Gardens and Nature Preserve when I noticed Mari’s little spot in the shade.  This was taken just after she noticed her unsuspecting sister coming near, but just before she bounded out to yell “boo” to her Liana, as their near constant game of peek-a-boo demands. I love how her plan is written all over her face here.

Thanks for letting me share Mari’s world with you.  I hope she brought a smile to your face, too!

Personal: Liana at the zoo

August 7, 2010 at 11:50 PM (fun location, kids, personal)

This weekend we took the girls to the zoo.  Liana, our 3 year old, is normally stuck in the stroller during weekday zoo trips with me.  Dadda joining us today offered Liana a little more independence.  We have tons of the obligatory bear-over-her-shoulder picture, so today I snapped some different shots as we celebrated her strollerlessness.  This first set were taken in some of the few shady spots I could find today in the zoo garden.

Just past the eagles exhibit (one of Liana’s favorites) is the Eagles Nest exploration area.

It was almost time to head home for nap, but we had to visit the jellyfish, get our hands wet in the touch tank, and of course climb the coral reef climbing wall before heading home.

I love the Akron Zoo, and if you’d like to put down your snapshooter and have someone else document your family’s trip to the zoo (and maybe get some family portrait shots taken in the garden), I’m your girl!

My cousin’s beautiful daughter, Gia, is 10 months old.  I took the opportunity to take some shots of her during our recent family reunion.

Kid Session: Liana is 3!

July 5, 2010 at 11:26 PM (kids, personal)

Liana recently turned 3, and I thought it was time we get some “official” three year old pictures.  We visited the Children’s Garden at Stadium Park in Canton for the first time, and we’ll definitely make return visit.

After a lot of running around it was time to stop and smell the flowers.

This girls loves slides, and the visit to this park was no exception.

She also loves waterfalls of all sizes.  It wasn’t easy to get her to look away from the one behind her to take this shot.

Sisters!

We couldn’t go before she watered the flowers.  She found the watering can there, and they provide a pump just for watering the flowers.

Good-bye Stadium Park.  Don’t worry – Liana will be back before she turns 4.

Personal: Tea Party

June 12, 2010 at 2:26 AM (family, kids, personal)

Here are a few shots from a little tea party my girls enjoyed last week.  They had a blast, and I didn’t interfere, or even say “smile!”  I just kept filling up the tea pot and snapping away.  Maybe this will inspire you to try a fun, different, and simple shoot of your own!

Check out Miss Don’t-Even-Think-About-Me-Looking-At-The Camera now!

After a few shots I put down the camera and just enjoyed my girls, because as I saw through my lens, they’re growing up too quickly for me not to join the party while I have the chance!

Baby Session: mini shoot with Gia

June 10, 2010 at 1:12 PM (baby, personal)

I had to pull out my camera when I saw my cousin’s adorable 6 month old daughter at our family’s Easter gathering.  Giavonna Rose is a gorgeous as her name, and was very patient for someone so small and so dressed up!

I love how the keys that she wouldn’t give up lend a playful feel to a portrait that might otherwise have felt a little stuffy for a fun little one like Gia!

We can’t wait to see you again, TJ, Tasha, and Gia!

Accident, Aftermath, and Easter: My kids

June 10, 2010 at 12:51 PM (family, fun location, kids, personal)

Less than a week after Mari’s first birthday we had one of those accidents you never think will happen to you in your house.  As a result, our newly minted one year old received first degree burns on the palms of both hands, although one hand was worse than the other.  We learned the hard way how blessed we are to be so close to the outpatient burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital!  After many many visits and weeks of wrapped hands, Mari is doing very very well now!

Unfortunately, her wounds were fresh when we attended an Easter Egg Hunt.  She was a great sport, though.

Her big sister enjoyed helping Mari find and recover eggs, but her favorite part was definitely the pony ride that followed.

Despite the trauma and drama of that week, both girls had a good time that day.

First Birthday Shoot: My Mari turn(ed) 1!

June 10, 2010 at 1:38 AM (baby, personal, Uncategorized)

I first put off blogging months back because I was preparing for my little one’s first birthday.  Just before her actual birthday (but a bit after her party) I pulled out a white backdrop, and threw in one of her favorite birthday presents – a white rocker with her name on it!

When she spotted a basket on the side of my set holding props, she was interested in nothing but climbing in and out of it (Looking back, this should have given me an indication of the crazy climber she’d become in the coming months.)

After an outfit change into her “party clothes,” the chair was once again deemed worthy of her attention.

After one final outfit change for the day, we ended our mini-shoot with the obligatory smash-the-cake ritual.

I switched a colored gel on and off of my camera to get the slight variation in color shown from one shot to another in this collage.  I think the effect here was kind of fun.  I could explain why I never got to take her outdoor one-year-old shots, but that’s for another post.

Just for Fun – Fake Senior Pictures of Hallie

December 23, 2009 at 1:20 AM (head shot, personal, senior portrait)

My utterly gorgeous sister-in-law let me take a few pictures of her during her winter break from her freshman year of college to add to my senior portrait portfolio.

We bundled up the little ones and headed out for a few minutes to get some winter backgrounds.   I’m looking forward to getting some more shots of her this spring.

Thanks Hallie!  We love you!

some down time – and a cutie

November 10, 2009 at 11:43 PM (baby, personal)

I’ve had a little down time with sick kiddos and spending some time with family.  Now we’re gearing up for Christmas sessions, but I’m still going to try to keep up with the blog.

For the moment, here are a couple shot of my cousin’s adorable 7 week old daughter (from that previously mentioned “time with family”).
